Student Spotlight on Reese Johnson
What got you started in acting? When did you know that you know that you wanted to be an actor?
At five years old, a family friend suggested I start acting because of my personality. By the time I was eleven, I found my love for acting and was very motivated to improve my career and talent.
What actor or filmmaker inspires you?
An actor that really inspires me is Joey King. She is able to portray characters in a way that seems realistic and non-scripted. She was given the role of Gypsy Rose, a young girl whose mother fooled everyone, including Gypsy Rose herself into believing she was handicapped, she was able to adapt to this role so well and made it seem effortless.
Any current projects?
My two most recent projects include a re-enactment on the REELZ Network about a serial killer from the 1970s, as well as a promo ad for a casting agency.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years, I certainly want to continue my acting and I would hope to go to a college with a good performing arts program so I can sharpen my skills. Today, I try to stay active in online acting and voiceover classes so I can stay present in the industry.
What do you think the challenges teens today are facing in the industry with COVID-19?
Without in-person auditions, teens in the industry have had to get creative in order to submit professional-looking self-tapes. For me, this meant investing in additional home equipment and becoming more tech-savvy.
What kinds of projects do you hope to be a part of in your career? What would be a dream role?
In the future, I would love to be a part of a big production. I love the thought of witnessing the behind-the-scenes and all that goes into creating a memorable project. My dream would be to have the opportunity to be featured in a film, sit-com, or drama series.
